Nigel Randall

Engineer/Certifier

Interests & Sports: Loves rallying! Member of Marathon Rally Car Club. Fitness fanatic - loves going to the gym.

What Nigel likes about the engineering industry: Nigel loves engineering. It's creative and most of the time you get to see things created from nothing and turned into reality. He generally deals with very positive, enthusiastic people, and considers a lot of clients as good friends.

Nigel finds engineering challenging, in that you never know what the next day will bring. The skills are communicable, you can use what you learn in one discipline in another. He finds his job is more than just engineering, its management, judgement, creativity etc., and it allows for people to find themselves something they can really love doing.

Engineering is a great job in which you can be creative and inventive - allowing you to be at the cutting edge of new developments.

Other Information: Nigel graduated from Canterbury University with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) in 1980. He worked for a time at New Zealand Aluminium Smelters at Tiwai Point, Invercargill before coming back to his home town of Nelson.

In 1987 he and his wife Bev started Challenge Consultants - the realisation of their dream to own run their own business. After much door knocking and hard work, they boasted an impressive, loyal client base, which helped them win the Sole Trader section of the 1989 Tasman Energy Business Awards.

Now trading as Randall & Associates Ltd, the business has grown to involve ten staff working in 3 branches (Palmerston North, Nelson & Wanganui).

Nigel has served time on the IPENZ Council, the IPENZ Mechanical Engineering Advisory Council's Competency Assessment panel and the Institution of Road Transport Engineer's Council. He won the Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast region Young Engineer of the Year Award and continues to be proud to represent the values he believes an engineer should adhere to.

What does he enjoy about being an engineer? Coming up with elegant designs and receiving positive feedback from satisfied clients.
